Emotes are the visual language of Twitch chat. Global emotes (like Kappa and PogChamp) are available to everyone, while channel emotes are exclusive to subscribers of a specific streamer. Affiliates get basic emote slots, Partners get more.
Custom emotes are a key part of community identity. Viewers subscribe partly for access to a streamer's unique emotes, making them both a community feature and a revenue driver.
